Thermal cameras will help QFH Township Fire Department advance firefighting techniques

Funds from Keweenaw Community Foundation (KCF) empowered the Quincy-Franklin-Hancock Township Fire Department to purchase a thermal firefighting camera. With advanced thermal cameras, we’re able to make better decisions while fighting fires—from locating victims to identifying hazards, and better seeing through the smoke,” said Hayden Henderson, a volunteer firefighter. “This also helps keep our team safer, minimizing our exposure.”

KCF commented that they are grateful for the dedication of local first responders and the donors who are critical in supporting their work. The foundation also reminded the public to provide as much detail as possible when calling in a fire.

“More and more homes have synthetic materials that tend to burn faster compared to, say, twenty years ago,” said Fire Chief Dan Dulong. “Not to mention all the new electronic devices. It’s become even more critical that we respond as fast as possible.”
